Agartala, July 12 (TIWN): Intoxicating drugs, phensedyl, corex and other drug business alike has become a burning issue throughout Ambassa. Most of the chemist shops are selling phensedyl and corex unabated. Dhalai District Hospital is also selling phensedyl as well as duplicate and expired medicines.

The business is a short cut for the chemists to earn crores. Various medicines shops of Kamalacherra, Dhancherra, Lalcherri, Kulai, Basudeb Para as well as the medicine shop in the district hospital are getting supply of corex and phensedyl from other medicine shops of Ambassa.

Very often expensive vehicles are engaged in smuggling of intoxicating tablets. The medicine controller of Dhalai District Hospital performs no function, but he receives an amount of Rs 30,000 to 40,000 every month from the government treasury. Such irresponsibility has led the chemists to incline towards the selling of corex and phensedyl. Besides, in order to earn black money, the owners of various medicine shops are supplying duplicate medicines to people. Furthermore, they are selling expired medicines.

Ambassa SDM Ajit Kumar along with the officials of Food department recently conducted a raid in one chemist shop of Dalubari and seized medicines worth lakhs. District Chief Medical Officer Sanjay Biswas said, “The issue came to limelight and he would look after it”. Police and sub division administration need to take immediate initiative in order to stop it taking disastrous shape.

There is no single age group of people more affected by alcohol and drugs than young people.  In some ways it feels like it is an issue everywhere:  for youths, family and friends.

More than 23 million people over the age of 12 are addicted to alcohol and other drugs affecting millions more people…..parents, family members, friends and neighbours.

As one possesses an interest in how drugs affect a number of social groups, these groups range from teens to high-class elderly individuals who will have different reasons. No matter race, sex, or age. Addiction is blind.
