AGARTALA, July 8 (TIWN): Sharply reacting to the proposed Railway Budget for the 2014-15 FY, the ruling CPM today said it was a true picture of wooing corporate lobby and a deliberate attempt to put more burden on the common people. In a press release, three MPs- Sankar Prasad Dutta, Jitendra Chowdhury and Jharna Das Baidya said Narendra Modi’s pro-corporate lobby concept took front seat in the proposed rail budget. “Though additional funds have been proposed in the budget for executing ongoing rail projects in Northeast region, there was no word on the ongoing Broad Gauge (BG) conversion work upto Agartalaâ€, they said.
More so, the budget did not specify by when the railway extension work upto Sabroom would be completed. No new rail was proposed for the Northeast region while there was no proposal of Indo-Bangla railway link in the budget.
They said Railway Minister Saddhanada Gora in his budget speech welcomed private players in the railways and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which could be fatal for the Indian Railways.
While Railway Minister was reading out his budget speech, two MPs expressed their resentment for ignoring the state’s interest.
MPs have decided to raise their voice against the privation move in the Railways and deprivation of the Northeast by the proposed rail budget. They would also press for to speed up railway extension work from Agartala to Sabroom on the priority basis.
