Agartala, July 3 (TIWN): Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officials are fuming over the Left Front government’s initiative of providing IAS nomination to one cadre service officer and two non-cadre officers, sources said.

To fill up three IAS vacant posts during 2014, the state government has initiated an administrative process to prepare a list of potential candidates. In course of the exercise, Dr. Manash Deb, a TCS officer, who had to face eight vigilance probes for his corrupt practices, appeared front runner for this year IAS nomination.

During his service career, Dr. Deb’s two increments were help up by the government for misusing of SRE (Security Related Expenditure) fund. Besides, his promotion was held up for about two years for his alleged corrupt practice. As a Tribal Welfare Officer, Khowai subdivision, he had to face departmental proceeding for taking away money from a beneficiary.

In spite of all wrong doings, Dr. Deb came out clean and is moving forward to grab the opportunity to become IAS officer. Alarmed at the government move, honest and competent TCS officers have demanded to review the outcome of vigilance probes initiated against Dr. Deb.

“We want Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to take a realistic view on the move of giving IAS nomination. God knows what will happen if such an officer gets IAS nomination! If the government doesn’t take remedial measures, angry TCS officers my file case against the government”, said a senior officer here today.

More so, the government has been moving forward to pick up two non cadre officers to fill up two vacant IAS nominations out of total three. According to sources, Rajesh Bhattacharjee, the Joint Director, Higher Education and Mahananda Debbarma, Addl General Manager, TSECL are the front runner for two IAS nominations. However, Chief Engineer of RD, TK Debnath, Addl Director of Industries department Swapna Debnath, and Addl DM of South Tapas Dey are also in the fray.

As per the guideline, the state government is supposed to pick senior-most TCS officers for IAS nominations and if there is shortage of eligible civil service officers, it can choose non cadre officers. In the state, there no shortage of senior and eligible civil service officer to get the IAS nomination.

Unfortunately, depriving the eligible civil service officer, the government has been trying hard to get two IAS officers from pool of non-cadre officers. And this will obviously set a bad precedent in the administration, according to sources
