Health Department contemplates to include management subjects in MBBS curriculum, CM presents strategic plan for hospital visits

AGARTALA, July 2 (TIWN): The state Health Department is considering to include Patient Party Management as a subject in the MBBS curriculum of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and the Tripura Medical College (TMC) as a part of the initiative to build congenial relation with relatives of patients undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday asked the Department of Health to consider the proposal and come up with some definite findings on the issue. Subjects like hospital management might also be included in the curriculum, the CM said at a review meeting of the Department of Health and Family Welfare held at the civil secretariat this afternoon.

The CM laid utmost stress on spreading mass awareness on vector borne diseases like malaria, dengue and chikunguniya.

Out of 3 lakh 30 thousand patients who underwent blood tests in public hospitals in 2010, a total of 23,939 patients were found to have contacted vector borne diseases like malaria, dengue and Japanese Encephalitis. The figures stood at 14 thousand 417 in 2011 and 7,396 in 2013. An official communiqué from the Health Department today said that diarrhea, malaria, hypertension, diabetes and respiratory ailments were the primary diseases of the state.

The Chief Minister issued strict instruction to all hospital and healthcare institution superintendents and Chief Medical Officers (CMO) of concerned districts to hold monthly visits in all hospitals including IGM and GB Hospitals, the two apex level healthcare institutions of the state. He asked Health Minister Badal Choudhury to hold weekly meetings to review the latest situation of public healthcare scenario in the state as well. The CM laid out a strategic plan to visit hospitals ranging from Primary health Centers (PHC) to apex hospitals like GB Hospital or IGM Hospital.

Director of Health Dr. K L Bhowmik was asked to visit all three operational district hospitals every month.  Secretary of Health and Family Welfare would be visiting two apex hospitals and healthcare institution from any relatively less covered district on a monthly basis. Mission Director of NRHM would be in special charge of Gandacherra and Longtraivalley sub-divisional hospital.
