Agartala, June 30 (TIWN): After an illustrious carrier of 33 years, DGP C. Balasubramanian today retired leaving a vacuum in the state police as the government has failed to pick a right choice for his successor.
Though there was no official order, K. Nagraj, the senior-most IPS officer would assume the charge of DGP as temporary arrangement, according to sources in the police headquarters.
Balasubramanian was today given a warm farewell at a parade organized at Monoranjan Debbarma Ground, A.D.Nagar. A total of 8 contingents of Tripura Police, TSR, Traffic, Women Police and Home Guards participated in the parade.
In his address, Balasubramanian praised the parade and reminded the sacrifices made by the martyrs of Tripura Police / TSR without whom Tripura Police could not have achieved the stature of today. He praised state police for becoming a role model in fighting insurgency. He hoped that state police will sustain this momentum in future also.
Balasubramanian, who is an IPS officer of 1981 batch of Manipur Tripura Cadre joined state police way back in 1983 after completion of training and started his career as SDPO Belonia.
Subsequently he held various post in Tripura Police as Addl SP, SP, DIG, IGP and ADGP. He also served in CRPF and CBI as part of central deputation. During his posting in CBI as SP he supervised the sensitive case of Rajib Gandhi assassination as member of the SIT. He also served as Addl DG CRPF and supervised the anti terrorist operations in naxalite affected areas.
After returning from CRPF, Balasubramanian joined as DGP Tripura in July 2013 and served as DGP Tripura till his retirement.
He has been decorated with police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1998, President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2006, and Police Duty Medal.
