Agartala, June 26 (TIWN): The BJP today demanded stringent measures to stop terror tactics unleashed by the ruling CPM cadres on the saffron party candidates for the three-tier Panchayat elections.
Party general secretary Gouranga Paul and party secretary Tapas Bhattacharjee today met state election commissioner Y. Kumar and submitted a memorandum elaborating the terror tactics of the ruling party. They informed him that BJP candidates for the upcoming Panchayat elections have been receiving threat calls from CPM cadres to withdraw their nomination papers.
They said CPM cadres have been threatening party candidates of dire consequence if they remain in the electoral fray. “In some areas- Baidhyadighi, Kasba in Bishalgarh subdivision, Jirania, Ranir Bazar, Belonia, Hrishyamukh, Khowai, Rajnagar, Kurti, Kadamtala, Charilam and Sonamura, BJP candidates were forced to leave their homes to ensure ruling party victory in the Panchayat elections”, they told the state election commissioner.
“During the meeting, we make the state election commissioner aware about the terror tactics of the CPM cadres to ensure their victory. After giving a patience hearing on our concern, he assured to take all possible steps to put end to the terror unleashed by the ruling party cadres”, said Mr. Bhattacharjee. A copy of the memorandum narrating the terror tactics was sent to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and DGP C. Balasubramanian.
