AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): In accordance with the Right to Education Act-2009 and NCTE Regulation, the School Education department has initiated a process to revise the decade-old Recruitment Rules for all categories of teachers, according to sources.

Though the process is yet to get the cabinet nod, School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty has already given green signal to the move to revise the RRs for PGTs, GTs, UGTs and DIET.

Sources said, the RR would be revised as per the provisions of Right to Education Act as well National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE). It means, Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) would be mandatory for appointment of Under Graduate Teachers (UGTs) while the government wants to arrange written test for recruitment of PGTs, GTs and DIET.

After the approval of RR, the recruitment of teachers would be tough not only for the department but also for the job seekers. In other words, only qualified job aspirations could get the job of teaching.

Besides, the department has also begun process to conduct TET for recruitment of UGTs but no specific time has been fixed yet. “We are on the process to conduct TET, a mandatory provision under Right to Education Act -2009 but date has not been finalized yet”, said an official.

It was Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who had pushed the plan to revise the old RR of teachers to ensure quality teaching at the school level. At a new book releasing programme at Town Hall, Chief Minister had expressed his displeasure over the poor results in the board examinations.

In his speech, Sarkar had said, “Teachers must come forward to identify the lapses leading to the poor results in the board examinations- Madhaymaik and Higher Secondary. The teachers’ council should be more careful while teaching the students. The board results are far behind from the expected level as all necessary infrastructures have been provided in most of the schools”.
