AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): After disastrous performance in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), a tribal based party has been initiated process to revive the organization at grass root level.
INPT’s Central Committee, highest policy making body of the party is scheduled to meet next month to prepare the roadmap for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The tribal council is scheduled to go elections next year.
“Right now, we are organizing party programmes at the grass-root level to strengthen the organization since it is the best way to reverse the party’s electoral fortune. This is of course a move to take on the might CPM in the coming ADC elections”, said a party’s senior leader.
He admitted the party has been suffering after demise of two party leaders- Shyamacharan Tripura and Rabindra Debbrama. Now, senior-most leader Nagendra Jamatia suffered mild stroke which could another problem for the party” said he.
“We do believe, the party will make its presence felt in the upcoming ADC elections next year and Village Committee elections in 2016”, he said.
According to party sources, an INPT delegation is likely to visit Delhi after MCC meeting to pitch for empower of tribal council. During the UPA-II regime, the ADC empowerment Bill could not be passed due to time constraint.
In the last Assembly elections, the INPT had contested in 11 Assembly constituencies and none of its candidate could make way to the Assembly. Party’s lone MLA Bijoy Kumar Hrangkahwl was defeated at the hand of CPM candidate in Ambassa constituency.
