Agartala, June 22 (TIWN): Tripura Upajati Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) on Sunday voiced high concern over the recent activities of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) led NDA government and said that the nation would come to face ill-effects of the Modi Sarkar soon. “We have seen prices of daily necessities like onion shoot up. Transport fares and rail fares were abruptly hiked defying the Parliament”, an official release from the left wing peasant organization said here today.

The tribal peasant organization held a two-day central committee meeting at the Dasharatha Deb Smriti Bhawan in Melarmath on June 21 and June 22.

Voicing concern at the emergence of saffron camp in the helm of power in the Parliament, the GMP added in its statement that despite bagging 282 seats in the Parliament in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA alliance secured barely 31.20 percent votes of the total eligible electorate. This victory was a result of the cumulative effort of capitalist forces and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) – an alliance which paved way for relentless relaxations for the elites and betrayal to the poor, GMP said in its statement.

“We shall launch movement against any anti-people step taken by the BJP government in the coming days”, the statement said.

In an effort to re-consolidate its command in the hills, the Gana Mukti Parishad resolved to bring over 2 lakh tribal families in Tripura under the cover of its membership programme. The target happens to be 10 percent above the previous year’s target. The organization is targeting all tribal families that defected into the Left Front from INPT and other tribal political parties since the 2013 state legislative assembly election.

The GMP is slated to submit a deputation to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on 20 point demands including political and economic empowerment of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in July this year.
