Gomati District Organises NDD Workshop

UDAIPUR, Jan 14 (TIWN): Gomati District organised the District Level Training of the upcoming National De-worming Day at Gomati Zilla Parishad on Friday. The training was attended by Dr. Niru Mohan Jamatia, Chief Medical Officer of Gomati District, Sri Arjun Sharma, OSD of District Education office, Sri Subir Ghosh, In Charge District Inspector of Social Education, CDPOs, Inspector of Schools & Block Nodal Officers. Dr. Subrata Deb, District Nodal Officer of NDD has imparted training by means of interactive session.

National Deworming Day – a massive School & Anganwadi based de-worming effort in all eight blocks of Gomati District, will be observed on the 10th February 2017. National De-worming Day is a groundbreaking initiative focussed on reducing the threat of parasitic worm infections, a widespread health issue which may be affecting over thousands children in the District alone, said Dr. Niru Mohan Jamatia, Chief Medical Officer. Narrating on importance of the programme, Dr. Jamatia said that parasitic worms in children interfere with nutrient uptake and can contribute to anaemia, malnourishment and impaired mental and physical development. So it is necessary to make the Day purposeful and successful. Referring the last year’s experiences, Sri Ajit Sharma, OSD to the Education Department and Sri Subir Ghosh, District Inspector of Social Education both have assured to provide full cooperation informing that more children from private schools have also been included in the action plan to bring them under the purview of Deworming Programme. In every school, the matter will be raised during prayer period to aware school children.

It is decided in the meeting that adequate medicines and awareness materials will be supplied to all concerned subdivision within3rd February. Block level training cum dissemination workshop will also be done to sensitize all stakeholders, inform Dr. Subrata Deb, District Nodal Officer of NDD. Mop up day will be celebrated on 15th February for those who could not participate on the National Deworming Day. It is pertinent to mention here that mass, school & anganwadi based deworming is safe, cost effective and has been shown to reduce absenteeism in schools, improve learning outcomes. Community mobilization efforts have also been undertaken in the district through ASHA, Anganwadi workers.
