AGARTALA, Jan 13 (TIWN): Till date people are facing unscheduled load shedding frequently. Unscheduled load-shedding running into hours has landed the people across the State in dire straits. Power Minister, Manik Dey in a meeting held on Mondayclaimed that the whole India is suffering from same problem. He further added that Monarchak Power Project, located at Sonamura is a totally failed project here in Tripura. The plant which began in 2002, even after crossing of 14 yrs has failed to generate power and supply in Tripura, said Dey.

In Tripura though the power purchasing cost is less, TSECL had a debt of 180.33 crore towards Neepco due to which Neepco was about to quit its operations across  state during April 2016.TSECL cited government offices and police department for not paying bills as the reason for such debt.

Notably, TSECL also took a loan amounting 250 crores from UBI at 9% interest pa in curbing the debt.

Recently speaking to TIWN correspondent,  a higher official of Neepco said that  Neepco is running two divisions across Tripura. One at Monorchak and another at Ram Chandra Nagar. He also said that production in Monarchak is  a bit less than 101 MW .

And such negligible lack cannot make it a reason behind power cuts across state.

With power cut offs hitting across state, this  a golden era of development and with such prevailing power cuts, Tripura Govt. is going to inculcate smart city project.
