Agartala, Sept 30(TIWN): Each police station in Tripura will have one woman sub - inspector and three women constables as par of enhanced policing measures in the backdrop of rising atrocities on women, informed an official of Tripura police.
Tripura has 67 police stations and 37 outposts. Officials said that recruitment of 300 women constables and 58 women sub – inspectors will be undertaken for appointing more women personnel in police stations.
The official informed that once the recruitment of women constable and sub – inspector is completed then all will be deployed in police stations and outposts.
It may be recalled, Tripura government in the month of June, Tripura government has convened an all party meet on to discuss incidents of atrocities against women.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who also holds the home portfolio, chaired the meeting. The meeting assumed importance with increasing atrocities against women such as rape, kidnapping and dowry deaths over the past few months.
The meeting was arranged in response to a suggestion of former opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath. Almost all political leaders attended the meeting. Among many proposals - one proposal was to increase the strength of women constables and officers in police station.
The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in its annual report of 2012 published gave dismal crime situation in Tripura. Its rank Tripura second after Assam in number of crime against women in northeast India.
