Bike rider dies, mob blockade road

Agartala, June 18 (TIWN): In a tragic road mishap around 9.45 am, a 35-year-old bike rider died at Santipara area under Lefunga police station, this morning. Several residents of the said area staged a protest and blocked the main road for nearly two hours after the incident took place, today.

The deceased was identified as Nikhil Debnath (35), a resident of the same area, a police official confirmed today. While a bike bearing the number TR01-J-5042 was proceeding towards Agartala, the bike shoved a Cruiser vehicle bearing the number TR01-D-2989 at Santipara of Salbagan area. As a result the bike rider Nikhil Debnath received grievous injuries on his person. Later, the locals taken him to the GBP hospital but the duty doctor declared him dead, confirmed police.

However, after receiving the information police of Lefunga police station rushed to the place of occurrence and seized both of the vehicles. A specific case has been registered in this regard. Police could not arrest the driver of Cruiser. According to the eye-witnesses the accident was occurred due to the rush and negligence driving.

Protesting against the accident and negligence driving, the locals blocked the main road for two hours. A resident of that area alleged that often accident takes place in this road and the traffic police play role like silent spectators.

Of late, when the police assured them to take necessary steps to prevent the road accidents and negligence driving, the mob cleared the road.
