AGARTALA, Dec 27 (TIWN): Clamors about Counter-Terrorism by Left Front Govt yet going high via national media, everyday Ministers’ empty speeches filling air. Even though Central forces, Military Intelligence, BSF neutralized Tripura’s hill based extremists but Manik Sarkar’s CPI-M left no stones unturned to claim credits for controlling insurgency.

Tripura’s Left Front  Govt in 1990’s under guidance of Central Govt. Govt gave shelter, jobs, money to the Terrorists to return to normal life, schools were made for their children, huge subsidies were also given to them. But the so called ‘successful  anti-insuregecy’ operation has left a major part of Tripura’s deprived people under shadows of misery.

A massive protest at capital Agartala was held on Tuesday after the gap of many years. These hapless victims were evicted during the militant attacks over hills. On that time it was said that they will be provided with all facilities, but after 2 decades, they received ‘nothing’… claimed the protesters.

These victims held protest with 3 demands : 1) To give Govt approval to the deprived, 2)To provide shelter to them, 3) To give each and every families with the compensation of 5 lakhs.

It’s worthy to mention here that s in the case of the other States of the region, Tripura was, at different points of time, caught in the wave of insurgency that arose from Nagaland in the 1950s.

The evolution of insurgency in Tripura can be traced to the formation of the Tripura Upajati Juba Samiti (TUJS) in 1971, followed by the Tripura National Volunteers (TNV) in 1981. The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was formed on March 2, 1989 and its armed wing, the National Holy Army and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), in July 1990, queering the pitch.

Between 1990 and 1995, the insurgency remained low-key. But it grew in extent and magnitude between 1996 and 2004 — and then started melting.

As the security forces achieved success in area-domination, no time was lost in implementing governance and developmental interventions swiftly and vigorously. The government reached out to the tribal people with the delivery of basic services such as health care, rural connectivity, drinking water supply, employment generation and income accretion. Socio-economic advancement and a change in the quality of life were ushered in.

But another innocent section of people were heavily deprived, who had no links with insurgency, now culminating massive protest at Agartala on Tuesday.
