AGARTALA, Dec 24 (TIWN): Encountering cattle smuggling at Indo-Bangla border under Sephajala Dist. one Muslim man was killed when BSF troopers, while on patrol along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, opened fire suspecting him to be a smuggler, police said here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Araber Rahman (38). The incident occurred at Balerdepha village (under Sipahijala district) on Saturday early morning, when BSF was in patrolling in that area and in attempt to nab him. However, Rahman’s family members have denied the BSF allegations and lodged a complaint with the police against the para-military troopers”, police spokesman Uttam Kumar Bhowmik said. A tension like situation has gripped the Sepahijala area after that incident. Cattle smuggling is radically increasing via Indo-Bangla border of Tripura especially in Sepahijala Dist. On Dec 2 A vehicle was seized by Tripura police with 4 half dead cows inside it.Although police failed to nab the smugglers but vehicle has was recovered, which was reportedly passing via Sonamura border.

Sonamura Border area become the corridor of smuggling cows and buffaloes to Bangladesh for last few months. Cattle smuggling rising day by day through Indo Bangla Border by smugglers under Sonamura  Sub Division. Then using different routes, they reach the border area and smuggle them at night. But the official claims are different from Tripura Police.

The Govt data also released on Friday said that Tripura has zero extremism since last 2 years. Tripura received no extremist threat in last 2 years, but he should know hiding things doesn’t excuse the duty of security forces.

To some extent the direct extremism is less here in compare to the other NE states, but one after one Nijerians are getting arrested in Tripura especially on Belonia & Sonamura area-In last 3 months atleast 7 Nigerians were arrested in Tripura. Even on Friday late night another Nigerian was held--- what about those issues?

Last time 3 have been arrested from Niharganj Bazar under P R Bari Police Station named : Anki Frank, Oke Basin, Sunday Noakun Bhechi.

Moreover, 10 Bangladeshis were also arrested from Rangamura Border area named : Ranjit Das (50), Rabindra Das (35), Kamal Chandra Das (30), Bimal Das (25), Kritish Das (30), Ajit Das (40), Rantu Chandra Das (50), Ajay Ch. Das (60).

The main problem is having with the unfenced border of that area. But the DM of Sepahijala Dist. Pradip Chakraborty became high tempered when he was asked about total unfenced border area at Sonamura. But more than 10 KM of border which remained as the corridor for smuggling and illegal entries of people from other countries, can not be ignored. The vague data may sustain people, but can not reduce the crime rate.

Often the CM Manik Sarkar talks in favour of ‘beef-eating’ and religious rights but he never raised the issue of illegal cow-supplying to Bangladesh. Sarkar in speech recently said, “A person hardly eats meat a day in a month, so restriction on Cow-slaughter?”.However attacking the Chief Minister’s comment and his CPI-M party, Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said eating may be right but nobody has right for violating animal rights.
