AGARTALA, Dec 11 (TIWN): Although Tripura is ruled by CPI-M party which generally opposes America, but the Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) on Saturday accepted that America was the first country to set up women’s rights.
“Earlier, women had no voting rights. It was in 1920 that in New York more than 15,000 women jointly protested for their rights and following that massive protest, America Govt declared the equal voting rights of men and women, which was later followed by other countries”, Roy said.
She further said, “I have a very little knowledge about Human-Rights, but as far as I do believe the basic rights for living are not given to women of our society”, said Roy.
“There are lakhs of women, who are not allowed to put their views into their family issues, even though we are going “Earlier women didn’t have voting rights also, the right was first established by women of America”, she added.
“In India, even in Tripura also women-men are not equally paid in many works”, Roy said.
Roy raised question, “Why women here feel lack of security to go out of home after 10 PM ? A man never feels so…"
