Agartala, June 13 (TIWN): Tripura’s ruling Left Front is campaigning in the three tier panchayat election on development issues and alleged corruption charges on Congress in the PRI bodies, CPI (M) sources said today. The campaigning partially started with the announcement of candidates for gram panchayats and panchayat samities in parts of the state since the past seven days.

The ruling party on Friday announced candidates for Mohanpur and Bamutia panchayat samity.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s Sadar Divisional Committee headquarters in Agartala this morning, DC secretary and state committee member Samar Adhya said that the party was expecting a sweeping victory in 100 percent seats in both panchayat samities. Grass root reports after the 2013 state legislative assembly election indicates that CPI (M) has strong holds in all gram panchayats and panchayat samities in both Mohanpur and Bamutia.

Congress had eleven seats in the two panchayat samities in the last three tier panchayat election results, CPI (M) and left allies had nineteen. Since delimitation of gram panchayats were held in the statem erstwhile Mohanpur was bifurcated into Mohanpur, Bamutia and Lefunga; all seats of the latter falling into the jurisdiction of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Asked about poll preparation till date, Samar Adhya today said that the ruling party was campaigning on basic issues like development activities in the ground zero level and alleged corruption in the Congress-led panchayat bodies.

“We are getting good response from the people in our campaigns till date. I guess the response will increase as full-fledged campaigning starts now”, he said.

The CPI (M) earlier announced candidates for gram panchayats under Salema and Durga Chowmuhani block in Kamalpur sub-division and candidates for Gournaga, Chandipur and Kumarghat panchayat samity in Kailshahar of North Tripura district. The party is slated to announce candidates for gram panchayats under Jirania block West Tripura district on Friday.
