Agartala, June 12 (TIWN): The Congress would soon declare its candidates for the ensuing three-tier Panchayat elections scheduled to be held on July 15 next, said PCC working president Asish Kumar Saha said today.
Party’s senior leaders including PCC president DC Hrangkhawl, CLP leader Sudip Roy Barman and former PCC president Samir Ranjan Barman today held meeting with DCC and BCC chiefs at Congress Bhavan here today.
“In the meeting, an elaborate discussion was held on the party’s strategy for the upcoming Panchayat elections. We have decided to appoint district wise in-charge to nominate party candidates for the poll. However, the PCC will take the final decision on the nominees”, he said.
Mr. Saha said the party would soon declare candidates for some constituencies for the Panchayat elections since the elections have already been declared.
Elections to the 591 Gram Panchayats, 35 Panchayat Samities and eight Zilla Parisads will be held on June 15. In 591 Gram Panchayats, there will be 6111 seats while there will be 419 seats in 35 Panchayat Samities and there will 116 seats in eight Panchayat samities. Submission of nomination papers would be allowed from June 16 to 23 while scrutiny would be done on June 24.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination would be on June 26 to pave the way for conducting elections on July 15. The counting would be held on July 17 next.
