AGARTALA, Nov 30 (TIWN): Situation at Khumlwng has become critical as more than 24 hrs passed that IPFT supporters are set on hunger strike. Talking to TIWN about IPFT’s strike CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar said, “Let them, what can we do if somebody has decided to die. However, suicide is a crime, whenever Govt will find that somebody is in dying condition due to excessive deteriorating condition of his or her health, then the suicidal crime will not be tolerated and via police or force the Govt will interfere in it”.Dhar also mentioned, “The IPFT itself is now contradictory as the party already have lost its unity and it has been divided into two groups". "The youth forum of IPFT are holding protest at ADC headquarter, but they are not with the main stream”, claims Dhar. “Most probably they have aligned with BJP”, said Dhar.

“But we already made it clear that their demand for a separate state is impossible in reality, so we would never support them”, he added.

Dhar mocked further, “The IPFT before few days planned to go to Delhi via train for holding a protest, but I heard they couldn’t manage rail bogies for them”.

However, this is the first time that IPFT has taken such a big move of hunger strike.

TIWN asked Bijan Dhar, ‘what will govt do if their protest-form expands in coming days..?’ He replied, in anyway the Govt here will not interfere in their protest as it’s a democratic country and everyone have their rights to protest. But Govt will interfere when somebody is dying as nobody has right to commit suicide in the country.

The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura was a political party in Tripura. Formed on June 9, 1997 when the Tripura Hill People's Party and Tripura Tribal National Conference merged. Initially the Tripura National Volunteers of Bijoy Hrangkwal was supposed to merge into the IPFT, but they withdrew from the project.

Bijoy Hrangkwal is now running INPT, which has recently demanded not a separate state, but similar things as anyone will have to carry the ‘inner permit card for entering the ADC  areas and additionally also demanded in whole Tripura 50 % reservation for STs.

A clash emerged between Bengalis and Tribals in Tripura during IPFT rally on 23rd August, 2016, which had worsen the situation further striking the communal harmony in the state and now the 48 hrs strike which is fully ignored by the state govt here has made the situation critical on hills.
