Cabinet gives nod to recruit 400 new Panchayat Secretaries, wage hike for pump operators

Agartala, June 10 (TIWN): A meeting of the state cabinet on Tuesday resolved to recruit 400 persons in the posts of Panchayat Secretary in an attempt to accelerate the working procedure of gram panchayats. Two hundred out of these would be inducted against existing vacant posts. Two hundred new posts were created for the new 200 gram panchayats created recently, Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha said here today.

Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of a meeting of the state cabinet here this afternoon, Finance Minister Saha said that the recruitment process of Panchayat Secretaries would be started soon. He added that the cabinet today gave nod to raise the remuneration of Rs. 2,250 allowed to irrigation pump operators to Rs. 3,400. Pump operators of Iron Removal Plants (IRP) would be allowed an additional Rs. 300 above the hiked remuneration, he said. The decision came following demands of hike in remuneration from the opetators for past several months, the minister stated.

A total of 2,849 pump operators are currently operating in different sub-divisions of the state. 1,284 out of them are serving in the irrigation sector.

The cabinet today further decided that two senior doctors – Dr. BS Choudhury, incumbent medical superintendent of the GB Hospital and Dr. Kanu Lal Bhowmik would be reappointed with effect from the current month.
