AGARTALA, June 09 (TIWN): Former additional chief secretary of Tripura, K. V. Satyanarayana is likely to be appointed as next State Information Commissioner (SIC) to succeed Shyamalima Bannerjee who retires early next month official sources said on Monday.
Mr.Satyanarayana who retired on May, had joined IAS as part of the Manipur-Tripura cadre and distinguished himself as a highly efficient and dedicated officer. He is originally from the coastal andhra areas of Andhra Pradesh, later moved to Hyderabad , which is now common capital of two states - Telegana and Andhra Pradesh.
The Right to Information Act, 2005 came into force on 12th October, 2005 All citizens of India are covered under the Act. The Act extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The Tripura Information Commission was set up on 19th January, 2006 The Tripura Right to Information Rules was formulated in 2006. Subsequently, it was revised and the Rules, as had been revised came into force with effect from 4th February, 2008.
During the past seven years, 23,000 applications seeking information had been filed with state government departments and a vast majority of them had been answered at the departmental level.
The state commission had received 389 complaints against errant departmental authorities and altogether 249 second appeals, of which 431 have been disposed of according to commission report.
