Agartala, June 8 (TIWN): In a 38-day-long treatment, a team of Agartala ILS hospital headed by Dr. Anshuman Borah (Neurosurgery) saved the life of a 56-year-old critical female patient. Dr. Borah informed it in a press conference at ILS hospital, here today.
Urmila Roy Choudhury was admitted at ILS hospital with severe head injuries from a road traffic accident (fall from bike) on April 30, this year. She was referred from GBP hospital in a very critical condition in an unconscious state at about 7.30 pm of the same evening, said Dr. Borah.
“During admission patient’s condition was very critical and her brain functions were severely compromised even her eyes were showing decreased response to light. After physical examination and investigation it was diagnosed as left Temporal Extra Dural haemorrhage with acute subdural haemorrhage and also diffuses brain injury. Because of her critical condition she could not immediately taken up for surgery and was managed conservatively with the hope that in case she responds to the treatment a surgery can be planned. Later, gradually her physical condition improved and hence Craniotomy surgery was done on May 1, with high risk”, added Dr Borah.
Further, he said that ILS hospital is grateful to the husband of Urmila for having undaunted faith on the hospital and the plan of treatment. Patient was under external breathing support- ventilation since admission and eventually Tracheotomy was done on May 09 by Dr. Rupesh Kumar Singh. After the surgery patient was admitted in intensive Care Unit and her treatment was a perfect example of a multi-disciplinary team approach which is most beneficial for such patients, said Dr. Borah.
“We are very pleased to inform that the patient with complete loss of consciousness and head injury is now successfully walking and doing her day to day activities in normal way”, claimed Dr Borah.
