Agartala, June 8 (TIWN): Tripura State Election Commission today met all fifty eight Block Development Officers (BDO) and eight District Magistrates (DM) to assess preparedness for the coming three tier panchayat polls. The meeting chaired by State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar was held at the civil secretariat from 11 AM this morning.

Speaking about the issue later this evening, State Election Commission Secretary Prasenjit Bhattacharjee said that the meeting was being held as an overall review meeting. “We discussed all issues including status of the process to induct poll personnel, randomization and other issues like preparation of photo voter slips etc”, he said.

Bhattacharjee added that the meeting was a training of-sorts for the BDos, many of whom didn’t have previous experience in conducting elections.

“The meeting cum training discussed status of drafting poll personnel, preparedness for randomization and guidelines for processing documents relating to the poll process like photo voters slip etc”, Bhattacharjee said.

He said that strict instructions were passed to all concerned officials to stick to the guidelines laid out in the Tripura Panchayat Act and the State Election Commission guidelines to evade any scope of confusion.

State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar said earlier last week that a meeting with representatives of all political parties which would contest the polls would be held on June 11. A meeting with Director General of Police C Balasubhramanian was held earlier on Friday.

Kumar said that the Commission had informed about broad requirements of security to the police. “The police authorities will now sort out ways of arranging force requirements for the polls”, the State Election Commissioner Kumar said.

State Election Commissioner Y Kumar, Election Registration Officer Tamal Majumder, Subhash Saha, all eight DMs, all 58 BDOs attended the meeting alongwith other officials. The SEC published final electoral rolls for the three tier Panchayat election in Tripura on June 05. The final rolls had 11 lakh 8 thousand 188 valid voters enrolled, slightly above the draft voters’ list by 1,368 voters. The list would be considered subject to further changes under Section 186 of the Tripura Panchayat Act in cases where the voters might feel unsatisfied with the status of their names or residences or any such detail mentioned in the rolls.
