Tripura extends AFSPA in 30 police stations

Agartala, June 7 (TIWN): An official notification from the Tripura Home Department on Saturday further extended Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1985 for six months in thirty police stations of the state. The notification said that twenty four police stations of the state were fully declared as disturbed areas

A senior Home Department official said later on Saturday that the state government assessed the law and order situation in Tripura and decided to extend the operational tenure of AFSPA – a central legislation that came into severe criticism for its draconian sections giving unlimited powers to the armed forces, often aiding them in evading trials for serious incidents of crime.

The official notification from the Home Department said that Damcherra, Khedacherra, Vangmun, Anandabazaar police stations under North Tripura district; Manikpur, Chowmanu, Ganganagar, Gandacherra, Raishyabari, Ambassa, Kamalpur, Chailengta police stations of Dhalai district; Taidu, Ampi, Birganj, Natunbazaar, Silachari and Karbook police stations under Gomati district; Sidhai, Mandwi and Radhapur police stations under West Tripura district and Khowai, Champahower and Mungiyakami police stations under Khowai district were fully covered under AFSPA as disturbed areas.

The notification further stated that partial imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act was declared on Makumcherra, Jamarai Para, Chandipur, Kangrai, East Satnala, Manu-Chailengta, South Dasda, Dashamanipara, South Tuisama under North Tripura district. Partial imposition of AFSPA was made on North Damcherra, Longtrai reserve forest, Jamircherra, Battala, South Damcherra, Maynama, East Karamcherra, East Machli, Deo reserve forest, Nalkata, Karamcherra, West Karamcherra, Chichingcherra, West Machli, Manughat, SK Para, Nightingcherra and Rajeshwar Mouja under Dhalai district. Kachaigang reserve forest, North Barmura, Devatamura reserve forest, Saimarua, North Brajendranagar, South Barmura, Devatamura reserve forest, Thelakung and 6 Gharia under Gomati district were covered under the same order.

East Takarjala, West Takarjala, Jampuijala, Kendraicherra, Kolabari, Saskumabari, Killabari, Ratanpur, Bamnicherra under Sepahijala district; Jagannath Bari area, Laxmipur, Maiganga, Moharcherra under Khowai district were brought under the same order.

The notification said that 48 revenue mouja areas under six police stations of the state were brought under partial cover of AFSPA.
