AGARTALA, June 7 (TIWN): The State Election Commission is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting on Sunday with Block Development Officers (BDO) from all 58 blocks of the state and all eight District Magistrates (DM) to assess the current preparedness for the coming Panchayat election.

Speaking to reporters this evening, State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar said that the meeting is scheduled to be held at the civil secretariat on June 8. “It will be an overall review meeting.
We shall discuss all issues including status of the process to induct poll personnel, randomization and other issues like preparation of photo voter slips etc”, he said.
Kumar further stated that a meeting with representatives of all political parties which would contest the polls would be held on June 11.
A meeting with Director General of Police C Balasubhramanian was held earlier on Friday. “We have informed about our broad requirements to the police. They raised certain questions which were cleared off immediately. The police authorities will now sort out ways of arranging force requirements for the polls”, the State Election Commissioner Kumar said. Chief Secretary Dr. Sanjay Kumar Panda attended the meeting alongwith other officials.
The SEC published final electoral rolls for the three tier Panchayat election in Tripura on June 05. The final rolls had 11 lakh 8 thousand 188 valid voters enrolled, slightly above the draft voters’ list by
1,368 voters. The list would be considered subject to further changes under Section 186 of the Tripura Panchayat Act in cases where the voters might feel unsatisfied with the status of their names or residences or any such detail mentioned in the rolls, Y Kumar stated.
The State Election Commissioner adopted a combo deal of traditional security deployment techniques and a new pragmatic method of determining threat prone areas this year. “We are looking at the security requirements based on three parameters”, Kumar said. The parameters would be ‘high Criticality Index’ indicating areas with extremely high turnout and low margin of defeat between the victorious and the second highest candidate in the last panchayat election. The Commission would also look at ‘vulnerable habitations’ based on intelligence inputs, location and possibilities of miscreant activities and areas with ‘security threat perception’.
