AGARTALA, Nov 11 (TIWN): Ever since Manik Sarkar has assumed the chair of Chief Minister of Tripura in 1998 , the state has been in headlines for gross irregularities , massive corruption etc. And in Swachh Bharat Mission Manik ruled Tripura's performance is shamelessly zero . On October 24,2016 Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu reviewed the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission(SBM) and said that the mission was broadly on course to meet the target of building over six million toilets in five years. According to FactChecker analysis of SBM data Tripura has not built a single toilet out of its target of 63398 toilets in two years. It is to be mentioned here that Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on October 2,2014 with a mission time of five years. The target was to build 6.64 million toilets by 2019 of which 2.57 million(39%) toilets have been built in two years of mission time(24 months).

Among the Indian states performance of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh is quite notable. Gujarat had set a target of building 406388 toilets in five years ending 2019 but it has spread built 548642 toiltes -135% of the mission target in 40% time, according Swachh Bharat Mission(SBM) data. Similarly Andhra Pradesh has set a target of building 193426 toilets by 2019 but it has also built 333554 toilets, a clear 172% of work completion of  the target.

 It is quite interesting to note that on November 1, 2016 Kerala( a CPI-M ruled state) declared itself to be India's third state to be free from open defecation after Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Kerala meets 68% of SBM targets. Out of a target of 90986 toilets 62450 toilets have already been built in the state. And in Sikkim 1512 toilets have already been built out of its target of 1587.

   Three states of India have achieved more than 40% target:-

1) Chattisgarh had a target of 300000 and it has spread built 183726 toilets.

2) Tamil Nadu had set a target of building 602029 toilets and it has already built 257781 toilets .

3) Madhya Pradesh had set a target of building 512379 toilets and it has already built 234377 toilets.

  In four states more than 30% of SBM target has been achieved. These are as follows:-

1) Uttar Pradesh had a target of 828237 toilets in five years time and it has already built 253972 toilets.

2) Maharashtra had a target of 629819 toilets and it has already built 207888 toilets.

3) Karnataka had a target of 350000 toilets and it has built 102704 toilets.

4) Jharkhand had a target of 161713 toilets and it has already built 47968 toilets. ( Source SBM data).

 While more and more states are quite systematically achieving their targets towards Clean India Mission under Swachh Bharat Mission , Manik Sarkar ruled Tripura's performance in this regard is simply a big zero.' Mr White CM '  is busy in delivering lectures across the state and luxurious helicopter travelling. But in the sphere of SBM Tripura is not only lagging far behind but also it has not made its entry in the achievement graphics of SBM.
