AGARTALA, June 7 (TIWN): Tripura home secretary B. K. Sahu on Saturday said the state government has ordered a magistrate-level probe into the BSF firing that killed two and injured nine others at South Ramnagar located two km from here last night.

"We have ordered a magistrate-level enquiry into the BSF firing. All possible aspects of the incident would also be looked into during the inquiry,” the home secretary told TIWN at the state secretariat on Saturday. District Magistrate of West Tripura district, Abhishek Singh, wills inquiry the firing incident

The incident happened last night when a BSF jawan was lynched by villagers after a man was killed in alleged firing by the security personnel during a clash which broke out near the Indo-Bangla border.

According to BSF spokesperson the deceased BSF personnel were attacked by villagers while they were chasing smugglers during a routine patrol last night prompting them to open fire in "self defence", the villagers attacked the security men with lathis. The BSF initially fired in the air to disperse the mob and then opened fire in "self defence" in which the villager, Ismail Mia, was killed and nine others were injured

Bhanu Mia, brother of the villager Ismail Mia who was killed in BSF action, in an FIR lodged at West Agartala police station said that the border guards opened fire after picking up a quarrel with them when they were resting near a pond. Meanwhile security security beefed up with deployment of
Tripura State Rifles (TSR) as tension prevailed in the area.
