AGARTALA, Nov 10 (TIWN): Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision, people in Agartala rushed to the banks to deposit money in their accounts. The money which is to be deposited is however confined with all Rs. 500/ and Rs. 1000/. But beating the Anti-Modi political parties, the public here have shown much respect to the decision of Govt of India. Talking to TIWN, a depositor who was standing in long queue with 1000/ and 500/ rupees of bundles said, “This trouble is nothing, if it can help country’s economy. We all from customers to bankers are working supporting the Prime Minister’s decision”. Public in Agartala were seen to enjoy the moment rather than getting irritated. “Those who have no black money, why should they worry?”, a senior citizen told TIWN.A young lady said, “I am feeling more proud than giving votes. It’s an expression of democracy and love to country”.

It’s worthy to mention here that the Union Finance Ministry on Tuesday said the move to withdraw Rs 500, Rs 1,000 currency notes is the biggest "surgical strike" by the government to curtail black money in the economy. "This is the biggest and the boldest step by the government for containing black money. It is like a surgical strike on black money," tweeted Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a sudden address to the nation on Tuesday, announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes are being withdrawn from midnight and will now become "mere paper".

Modi said this was being done to tackle the menace of black money in the country, which has sapped the economy. The Prime Minister said that the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes can be deposited in banks and post offices, and also exchanged across the bank counter by showing government-issued ID proof. The decisions come after a cabinet meeting.

"Thank you. All of us have to work shoulder to shoulder and create a prosperous, inclusive and corruption-free India," posted Modi in reply to Rajinikanth's tweet, "Hats off Narendra Modiji. New India is born, Jai Hind".
