AGARTALA, Nov 1 (TIWN): Amidst celebration of ‘Bhai-Phota’ and other festivities across Tripura, a heinous crime of raping a 4 yrs old babygirl took place in Manik Sarkar’s golden Tripura. In scam tainted Tripura under CBI chargesheeted DGP Nagraj, Police in slumber as innocent girls are praying to God for long lives of their brothers, but on same day, an innocent girl child is battling for life with deep injuries on her body after brutal rape by her neighbor. This ghastly crime was exposed when BJP members hit Agartala East Women Police Station on Tuesday demanding strong chargesheet against the accused. Reportedly, on Monday night, 4 yrs girl was raped by her neighbor at Abhoynagar. On Monday midnight around 12 PM Abhoynagar police arrested the accused named Uttam Sarkar (19). On Tuesday morning meeting the victim family, BJP informed TIWN correspondent that rape-victim is being hospitalized and her condition is deteroiting. Rape accused Uttam is under custody of East Women Police Station.

Tripura could not even recover the shocking incident when 5 tribal girls were gang raped at Sabroom Bishnupur ADC village.

 TMC leader Sudip Roy Barman claimed that the rapists were all CPI-M local leaders and Police is unlikely to take any strong steps in that case.

It was also claimed that police went to the victim houses of those five girls and warned them not to register any case in the police station, and later it was gone for mutuality under Panchayat. 

However, State BJP has asked the police under Agartala Women Police Station to make a strong charge sheet so that no scope of loopholes remains in that case, informed TIWN reporter. 

During a press meet held on Oct 25 at West Police Station, question was raised before SP West Abhijit Saptarshi about the increasing number of pending cases at Women Police Station at Agartala, including murder, rapes, tortures on households. 

However, SP Abhijit Saptashi said, “I will look into the matter”, reported TIWN from West Police Station.

In August 2015,  Chairperson of ‘Tripura Commission for Women’ Purnima Roy said, “Crime against women has declined by numbers in the state”, whether the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report says that Tripura ranked 4th especially in crime against women. National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report in the month of August says that Tripura ranked 4th in crime against women. According to the NCRB data, in year 2014, rape incidents recorded in the state were 239, dowry death recorded were 33, sexual harassment caseswere 82, cruelty by in-laws were 702 cases.The report also states that the rate of crime against women in Tripura is 88, while the national average is 56.3. 

However, it’s to be mentioned that in every 2 days a woman/girl is raped/murdered in Tripura.

Moreover, hundreds of rapes are happening every month which are not even reported to Police.

Tripura gradually emerges as the unsafe and un-protective place for the women. Every day the number of crime incidents upon women is increasing alarmingly.  

In this situation festivals have become a matter of concern for the parents here, as Kali Puja, Bhai-phota all these emerging various rape-episodes in state.
