Agartala, June 5 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today left for Delhi to attend CPM politburo meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow, party sources confirmed here today.
All the members of CPM politburo, party highest policy making body including party general secretary Prakash Karat and influential PB member Sitram Yechuri are expected to remain present in the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance keeping in mind of the party’s disastrous electoral performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The CPM which had contested over 90 seats, has won only nine seats- one of the worst performance of the party.
In the meeting, the party leaders are expected to discuss the reason behind the party’s poor show and remedial measures for the party.
In the sideline of the party engagements, the Chief Minister may meet some Union Ministers in Delhi but has not any plan to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Party’s two-day central committee would begin in Delhi on Saturday. The central committee will also discuss the party’s poor show in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Apart from the Chief Minister, PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury and Tribal Welfare Minister Aghore Debbarma would also join the party’s central committee meeting.
Though the CPM did well in Tripura, the party could not even put a decent fight against the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections. Biman Bose, party’s West Bengal secretary claimed the organizational loopholes, terror unleashed by Trinammool Congress and rigging have marred the party’s poll prospect.
