Agartala, June 3 (TIWN): When the state government is grappling after the termination of over 10,000 teachers in different categories, thousands of SSA and RMSA teachers marched the streets demanding regularization of their service.

Teachers from across the state assembled at Rabindra Satrabarshiki Bhavan and marched towards Mahakaran (Civil Secretariat) with chanting slogan for regularization of their service.

However, their march has been stopped at Circuit House around 1.45 pm. At Circuit House, leaders of SSA and RMSA under the banner of All Tripura Contract Teachers’ Association (ATCTA) spoke on the issues related to their problems.

In their speech, they strongly demanded regularization of their service at the earliest. They also advocated for equal pay for equal job.

Sources said, they wanted to meet Chief Minister Manik Sarkar or School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty to submit a memorandum demanding regularization of their service. However, the Chief Minister and School Education Minister turned down the request of SSA and RMSA teachers.

Over 9000 teachers engaged under SSA and RMSA have been playing key role in running the government and government aided schools in the state. And both SSA and RMSA are Central Government sponsored schemes.

There are allegations the state government has been depriving the SSA teachers when it comes to salary and other perks. While the Centre has been giving enough fund to provide good salary to the SSA and RMSA teachers, the state government has been paying less to ‘maintain parity’ with the regular teachers.

The state government is grappling after the termination of 10,323 teachers by the High Court following separate writ petitions. Interestingly, Law Secretary DM Jamatia, who sent to file a special leave petition before the Supreme Court returned here with empty hand recently.
