AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Recently Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has claimed that Tripura must have the highest literacy rate among women in whole country, but still Tripura stands 4rth in overall the country in crime against women. But during a press meet held at West Police Station on Tuesday, question was raised to SP West Abhijit Saptarshi about the increasing number of pending cases at Agartala West Women Police Station at Agartala, including murder, rapes, tortures on housewives. However, SP Abhijit Saptashi said, “I will look into the matterâ€, reported TIWN from West Police Station.In August 2015, Chairperson of ‘Tripura Commission for Women’ Purnima Roy said, “Crime against women has declined by numbers in the stateâ€, whether the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report says that Tripura ranked 4th especially in crime against women. National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report in the month of August says that Tripura ranked 4th in crime against women.
According to the NCRB data, in year 2014, rape incidents recorded in the state were 239, dowry death recorded were 33, sexual harassment cases were 82, cruelty by in-laws were 702 cases.The report also states that the rate of crime against women in Tripura is 88, while the national average is 56.3.
However, it’s to be mentioned that in every 2 days a woman/girl is raped/murdered in Tripura.
Moreover, hundreds of rapes are happening every month which are not even reported to Police.

Tripura gradually emerges as the unsafe and un-protective place for the women. Every day the number of crime incidents upon women is increasing alarmingly. Although SP said he will look into the issue, but how far his words will be effective it's to be seen.
