 Tripura launches initiative to boost tourism

Agartala, Sept 27(TIWN): Tripura Tourism Development Corporation has taken various initiatives to promote tourism and will create many modern facilities for tourists, said Tourism Secretary, Ashutosh Jindal here on Friday - Sept 27 is World Tourism Day. For boosting tourism, he said that government has already started the job of beautification of historical sites on modern lines.

The secretary said “Number of measures has been taken to develop new tourism spots and conservation of century old monuments of the region like Neer Mahal at Melaghar, the second water palace in India, Unokati rock cut images at Kailasahar and Pillak Buddhists pilgrim at Belonia.”

  He said government has sanctioned Rs. 7.5 crore for developing the Neer Mahal which include renovation and retrofitting of the water palace, construction of parks, tourist reception centre, artificial lake adding that some amount will be spent for construction of view points and ring road around the lake. 

            Speaking about Unakoti and Pillak, Mr. Jindal said, “The government sanctioned Rs 113.5 lakhs and Rs 176 lakhs for both historical sites, Archeological Survey of India is looking after both sites will start beautification work within two months”                       
        He said, “The department will have its on directorate very soon, this will boost tourism in Tripura, besides attention are given for providing good accommodation and hospitality to the tourists”. Work of various tourist lodges are under progress on war-footing and would be completed by Tourism Department within stipulated time frame.

 Sipahijala and Trishna reserved forest will be developed as a major eco-tourism destination.  As part of the development plans facilities like parking, public conveniences, eco-parks, jetties, tents and cottages will be added up as infrastructure to this spot of natural beauty.

      He also advised local youth of theses area to engage them in the tourism-related industry, which offers plenty of opportunities in the form of tour operator, travel and adventure sport guides.
