Agartala, 2 June (TIWN): The roof of an under construction auditorium collapsed at Sonamura yesterday afternoon, but there were no casualties reported, police said. NBCC has been appointed to bulid the 1800 seating capacity auditorium with the budget of massive Rs.23 crore. Incident took place when workers were working on a new wall.
“Sonamura Nagar Panchayat is responsible for the incident, they didn’t check the materials been used in the building” the localities alleged. They also alleged NBCC for their poor construction work, and said this kind of incident would again take place if the senior official does not interfere in this matter.
No investigation was ordered against the incident. It was reportedly that the contractor has good connection with the local leaders of the ruling party, thus posses the major failure for the civil administration to noose around such corrupt contractor.
However NBCC officials escaped themselves by saying “We are maintaining a close watch on the construction materials but due to heavy rainfall in few days the roof collapsed”.
Meanwhile Subhasish Das (SDM) of Sunamura, who were in Agartala yesterday, today will visit the site.
