AMBASSA, Oct 23 (TIWN): Cops arrested one Ranjit Paul (25) of Chandraipara locality here after FIR was lodged against him in local police station.

Ranjit is accused of raping his own sister. Asked about the issue, an official from Ambassa police station said that the complaint from Ranjit’s parents mentioned that his parents were away since October 11 as his father Rabindra Paul was hospitalized in deteriorating health condition. His mother was away to attend to her ailing husband. Taking advantage of the situation, Ranjit tied his 15 year old sister and repeatedly raped her for days on, the complaint filed by the victim’s uncle Ratan Paul said.

Local residents of Chandraipara said that the accused Ranjit was warned on several occasions by his parents and neighbours beforehand. However, his sexual trysts never ended and finally landed him in police custody on Saturday.

“We have arrested him from his residence today”, the police official said.

In a separate incident at Premsingh Orao village under Sitakunda Para in Kalyanpur in Khowai district, two maternal cousins engaged in illicit affairs that ended in the teen girl giving birth to a baby girl last Monday. Her beloved, a seventeen year old student of the Khash Kalyanpur High School, reportedly denied marrying her and accepting the child as his own. While a police complaint was filed by intervention of local residents, the cops are yet to arrest anybody connected to the case.

The sudden spike in the incidents of incestuous relationships in the state has given rise to concern among the police officials too. Asked about the issue, a senior official of the state police said that human values and family learnings are on the ebb, owing to which similar conditions were found repeating in most districts of the state.
