Agartala, June 1 (TIWN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today urged party supporters to build strong resistance against the ruling CPI (M) in Tripura in the coming Panchayat election.

“Congress was sent to exile from the Parliament in recently concluded Lok Sabha election by the people. It’s turn for CPI (M) in Tripura”, BJP state president Sudhindra Chandra Dasgupta said.

Addressing a rally at Rajnagar in Niharnagar area under Pilak district, Dasgupta said that BJP is attaching high significance to the coming three-tier Panchayat election in Tripura. He urged party supporters to build resistance against CPI (M) and Congress in all 591 gram panchayats, 36 Panchayat samities and eight Zilla Parishads scheduled to go to polls in July.

Over five thousand people joined BJP from CPI (M), Congress and Trinamool Congress in the past few weeks, Dasgupta added.

Spokesperson for BJP state committee Sushil Chandra Roy, retired ‘sainik’ Nirmal Tripura, Tripura Rajya Mahila Morcha secretary Rupa Roy and others attended the rally on the day.

Over six thousand gram Panchayat constituencies, 419 panchayat samity constituencies and 116 constituencies of the Zilla Parishads would go to polls in July this year. 11 lakh 6 thousand 820 voters were enrolled in draft electoral rolls published by the State Election Commission earlier this year. The Commission is slated to publish the final rolls on June 05. The figures of electoral rolls had a thin margin of rise from 10 lakh 20 thousand 129 in the last Panchayat election.
