AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): Once again a meeting kicked off on Mizo repartition between Miroram Officials & Tripura Officials at Kanchanpur, North Tripura. In that bilateral meeting 3 DMs from North Tripura, Mamith Dist (Mizoram) & Kalashir Dist(Mizoram) attended. On the other hand uncertainty of repatriation of tribal refugees to Mizoram again became visible after a high-level meeting at the Union Home Ministry in Delhi, officials. Earlier North DM said that the reparation is sure on November, but with that meeting held at Delhi again doubt raised regarding the issue. Sources said that Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) for repatriation of the refugees, chaired by Union Special Secretary (Internal Security) Mahesh Kumar Singla, Mizoram government officials wanted to start the repatriation from January next year instead of pre-scheduled in Nov as the Union government urged. However, may be delayed but the reparation is sure within few months indeed ! Or it may be held on Month of November / January-2017 also. However, nothing can be said presently as the outcome of the meeting yet to come.

The 20 years old Mizo repartition issue which have crossed more than 2 decades, without any permanent solution, under the UPA at Centre and the Communist Era in state, finally received a better shape, after the last successive meetings between Satyendra Garg, the Joint Secretary of MHA with both Tripura & Mizoram Govt. Presently the work on Mizo repartition from Tripura is undergoing in full wave, although in Tripura Govt.’s side all works are completed.

Following the damages done by the Brus in the month of April when they damaged, burnt many Local people’s homes, a Home Ministry Official Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary, in-charge of Northeast arrived Tripura and held meeting with Tripura Chief Secretary Y P Sing and on the next day he held meeting at Kanchanpur Bru refugee camp, (Kanchanpur, North Tripura---where the Brus or Mizos had taken shelter 19 years back following a crisis at Mizoram and killing a Forest Officer there).

However, nothing was solved after that meeting, as the Mizos told the MHA Officicals, until their demands are fulfilled by Mizo Govt. they will not leave the state. However, after that Mizoram Govt. was pushed by the Central Govt. as well as Kanchapur Administration to hurry up the issue. However, Satyendra Garg again visited Tripura in the last month and without being ready to hold discussion with the Mizos, he rushed to Mizoram, talked to Mizoram govt. about the pending issue.

It’s worthy to mention here that staying in power almost for 23 years, the Tripura Govt. couldn’t progress much in this Mizo repartition issue. During UPA govt’s era, CPI-M govt. in Tripura was failed to take the issue to the Prime Minister. But with the coming of Modi Govt. it seems that the Northern security issues are seriously taken cared including border fencing, Mizo reparation etc.

Around 31,300 Reang tribals, who call themselves "Bru", have been living in seven makeshift camps in northern Tripura's Kanchanpur areas adjoining Mizoram for the past 19 years. They had fled after an ethnic violence in Mizoram following the killing of a Mizo forest officer at the Dampa Tiger Reserve. Now their numbers also have been increased and their families. However, with the interference of BJP led Central Govt. just within 2 years of its power in the Country, has forced the Mizo Govt. to accept the Brus in its state by fulfilling their all demands.
