AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): The Tripura State Election Commission had over eleven thousand claims and objections filed over the draft electoral rolls for the coming Panchayat election this year, State Election Commissioner Y Kumar said.Interacting with the media at civil secretariat at Agartala, Kumar said three categories of claims and objections were filed including inclusion of names in the electoral rolls, exclusion of names or objections on entry of names and correction of particulars like gender of voter etc.
6,015 claims were filed in the first category, 5,189 objections were filed in the second category and 142 claims were filed for correction of particulars, the official said.
The SEC is currently working on preparing the final electoral rolls for the coming Panchayat election. Guidelines for personnel to be deployed in election duty were published today. After all claims and objections were resolved by May 31, the Commission is now preparing the final electoral rolls for2014 three tier panchayat election, State Election Commissioner Y Kumar said. The final rolls would be published on June 05.
The State Election Commission recently said in an official communiqué that the dates for filing claims and objections on the draft electoral rolls of the constituencies of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samities and ZIlla Parishads were extended upto May 29 from May 27. Deadlines of disposal of claims and objections were extended up to May 31 in place of May 30 as well.
The draft electoral rolls for Tripura panchayat election this year had 11 lakh 6 thousand 820 voters enrolled. The figure had but a thin rise from the 10 lakh 20 thousand 129 from the last panchayat election.
