DGAR visits Tripura, meets CM

AGARTALA, May 31 (TIWN): Lt Gen R K Rana, SM, VSM, Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) on his maiden visit to the state met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at Civil Secretariat on Saturday evening. He apprised him of the security situation. It is believed that latest intelligence reports and nexus between various groups operating from neighboring states were also discussed. It’s important to note that Gen Rana heads the prestigious Assam Rifles which is actively involved in fighting insurgency in the North East.

Lt Gen Rana, earlier addressed troops of at 21 sector Assam Rifles  headquarter  on his visit to the formation from May 28 to 30.The Director General emphasized that the troops of the Assam Rifles have a great responsibility on their shoulders being the ‘Sentinels of the North East’. The conduct of each soldier should be exemplary, as they are the ambassadors of the Assam Rifles in the State of Tripura. The Assam Rifles being the ‘Friends of the North East’ should work hand in hand with the people of Tripura to bring in an era of peace and development in Tripura.

Before taking over as the Assam Rifles chief, Rana was general officer commanding of an Area headquarters at Bareilly. Commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles in June 1973, Rana commanded an infantry battalion in counter insurgency operations, a mountain brigade in high altitude area, an infantry division on the China border and the Special Frontier Force in the cabinet secretariat.
