AGARTALA, May 24 (TIWN): In a politically significant move, the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) today congratulated Prime Minister designate- Narendra Modi for NDA’s spectacular win in the Lok Sabha elections.“We hope, the new government under the leadership of Narendra Modi will ensure country’s unity, integrity and ensure safeguarding of constitutional rights of indigenous people”, party’s general secretary Jagadish Debbarma after a crucial meeting of INPT.After the Lok Sabha elections, the party’s Central Committee held meeting at Agartala Press Club and discussed the impact of the Parliamentary election result. In the meeting, party leaders were of the view that the INPT should work hard to strengthen the organization on its own.

To achieve this, the party would launch agitational programme demanding empowerment of Tribal Areas Autonomous District (ADC) and different public interest issues. The agitational programme will kick stat from June.

On being asked if the INPT delegation plans to meet Narendra Modi after taking oath as Prime Minister, the party general secretary said, “Now we want to make him aware about the powerless ADC by sending letters, fax messages. And later, we can meet him seeking his intervention to empower the ADC in true sense.

Mr. Debbarma said the party would inform the UPA-II government’s effort to push a Bill empowering ADCs constituted under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian constituency.

The UPA-II government had tried to place a bill seeking empowerment of ADC constituted under the Sixth Schedule of the constitution but could not get passed in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the INPT constituted a seven-member team to prepare strategy for the upcoming ADC and Village Committee elections.

While party president BK Hrangkhawl has been nominated as chairman of the committee, party general secretary Jagadish Debbarma has been given the charge of convener of the panel.
