Awareness camp to check spread of malaria, held in AMC

AGARTALA, May 24(TIWN): To prevent malaria from spreading in the city, an awareness camp was organized in the slums of AMC on Saturday. Mayor of AMC, Dr. Prafullajit Sinha while inaugurating the camp said there was an urgent need to involve people in the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme.

He emphasized that due to change in weather conditions, especially early arrival of monsoon, residents were required to be more vigilant. He made an appeal to the people drain out water from coolers and scrubs them dry once a week.

He also said all services related to malaria and dengue will be provided at the doorstep free of cost. Dr Sinha further requested the slum dwellers to get their blood examined, in case of a fever. The NVBDCP has constituted various teams - anti-larval, fever alert, mosquitogenic situation and IEC team.

The teams are carrying out comprehensive activities such as anti-larval measures, collection of blood smears from fever cases, examination of slides and treatment of positive cases, vector control easures, checking of mosquitogenic situations, checking of coolers, and issue of notices to defaulters.The disease surveillance teams collected 274 slides from different areas, which were examined on the spot. Persons suffering from fever were given pre-emptive treatment for malaria.
