AGARTALA, May 23.(TIWN): In a last minute surprise move, Finance Department is taken away from veteran Minister Badal Chowdhury and handed it over to Bhanu Lal Saha, considered a close associate of CM. Badal Chowdhury served as Finance Minister in Tripura Cabinet for past 17 years. After Jiten Chaudhury, Badal Chowdhury’s departure marks the end of era of efficient Ministers in the Departments of Finance, Industry, Commerce, Rural Development, Forest.

Unfortunately all these important departments Finance, Industry, Commerce, Rural Development, Forest  fell now on inexperienced hands who will be facing tough times to do justice to their portfolios.   Chief Minister Manik Sarkar reshuffled his cabinet today. Newly appointed minister Naresh Jamatia has got the charge of Rural Development, Forest, Parliamentary affairs, while as expected,  Tapan Chakraborty lost Health Department.  Badal Chowdhury to take charge of Health department.  Finance Department has been handed over to Bhanulal Saha from Badal Chowdhury. Higher Education has been given to  School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty. He will also hold the charge of Industry & Commerce Department.

Today at around 11am Governor Debananda Konwar has administered oath to newly appointed Minister Naresh Jamatia. After that talking to the Reporters here at Raj Bhawan, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar announced about reshuffle of his cabinet.

It is to be mentioned that, since last few years Health Ministry under Tapan Chakraborty was performing very poorly in Tripura. Keeping in view of the sentiment of the people of state, ruling party had to make a decision of replacing Health Minister. On the occasion of Naresh Jamatia’s apointment, government ultimately took the decision to move out Tapan Chakraborty. However going by the past performance of Tapan Chakraborty in Health Ministry - now one can imagine the future plight of important Industry & Commerce  Ministry of Tripura.

According to the CM’s decision, Minister Tapan Chakraborty will look after the departments of Higher Education, School Education, Industry & Commerce. Badal Chowdhury will be in charge of Health & PWD. Minister Bhanulal Saha will take over the charge of Finance, Food, Information & Cultural Affairs. Newly appointed Minister Naresh Jamatia will take over the departments of Rural Department, Forest and Parliamentary Affairs. Department of Information & Technology are yet to be distributed, informed Chief Minister.
