Amarpur, May 22 (TIWN): Action is likely to follow against errant officials in the embarrassing episode where truckloads of school textbooks were found dumped in gorges along the Amarpur-Gandacherra road.

Shortly after media reported on two truckloads of textbooks and other study materials thrown into marsh lands at Bibharam Para along the Amarpur-Gandacherra road, a delegation of Deputy Director of School Education Department Kalimohan Jamatia, Joint District Program Coordinator of RMSA Khokan Chandra Das and others paid a spot visit on Thursday and confirmed the report.

Asked about his take on the issue, Deputy Director Kalimohan Jamatia said that the books were from the 2009-2010 lot of NCERT Kokborok textbook supplies to schools. These books were given to the office of Gandacherra Inspector of Schools (IS). These books weren’t distributed, Jamatia said. He added that disposal of the books in such no-brainer way was not appropriate.

“A probe would be started on the issue and anybody found liable for the issue will be punished”, the official said.

Inspector of Schools (IS) at Gandacherra –Pranati Chakma couldn’t be reached for her reaction on the issue. Approached by scribes, she was found to have taken to her heels from her office this afternoon. Her official phone was found switched off till latest information came in.

No accused was found for this guilt but locals were found to be suspecting one Subhash Debnath, a Group-D employee for his involvement in his shameful incident, local sources said. He was later subjected to interrogation by officials. No plausible information could be obtained.
