School Teacher Job termination: Four officials leave for Delhi

AGARTALA, May21 (TIWN): Advocate general of Tripura, Bijan Das along with Dr. K Rajeshwara Rao principal secretary of school education department, D. M. Jamatia law secretary and P.K. Chakraborty director of school education left for Delhi to appeal after discussion with senior lawyers of Supreme Court regarding terminating jobs of 10,323 government school teachers, Minister for School Education Tapan Chakraborty said.

Speaking to reporters at secretariat on Wednesday evening, the minister said state government is behind the terminated teachers and interest of all will be protected.

When asked about preparation made for appealing at the apex court, Mr. Chakraborty said that after discussion with senior law experts of the country it was found there are enough grounds for filing an appeal and government is hopeful that the apex court will repeal the High Court judgment.    

The Tripura government Saturday decided to appeal to the Supreme Court against the Tripura High Court judgment on terminating jobs of 10,323 government school teachers.

A division bench of the Tripura High Court comprising of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Swapan Chandra Das also asked the state government to arrange a fresh recruitment process by December 2014 and to frame a new employment policy within two months. 

Tripura's Left Front government recruited 1,100 post-graduate, 4,617 graduate in 2010 and 4,606 under-graduate teachers in December last year.”The main opposition parties, including the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress, welcomed the court's verdict and sought fresh recruitment process. They also demanded resignation of the chief minister.
