AGARTALA, May 21 (TIWN): A State Government team headed by Law Secretary DM Jamatia today reached Delhi to file a special leave petitions before the Supreme Court challenging the High Court of Tripura’s verdict- terminating 10,323 teachers from the service. On May 7, the High Court terminated 10,323 teachers following separate writ petitions after a long hearing. However, the state government was not happy with the judgment of the High Court. As part of last ditch of attempt to save the job of 10,323 teachers, the government has decided to file a special writ petition before the apex court pleading to reconsider the judgment of the High Court.

To implement the government decision, the Law Secretary and Advocate General BC Das along with some officials and advocate today went to Delhi to file the special leave petition, according to Law department sources.

Since the time is running out very fast, the government wants to file the petition before the apex court within few days.

In its verdict, the High Court while canceling the appointment of 10,323 teachers candidly asked the government to start a fresh process to fill up the vacant post by 31.12.2014. It means the matter needs to be settled by December 31 or else the government will in big trouble, according to legal experts.

Former Advocate General Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharjee today said it was not wise to politicalize the verdict or the issue. “The court has given its verdict considering the all aspects and this is not final. There is scope to challenge the verdict in the apex court. We have to wait what the Supreme Court says on it. In our country, the judiciary is still relatively corruption free in compare with other departments”, he said in a TV show tonight.
