UDAIPUR ,MAY 19 (TIWN) : People including businessmen, office goers , college students and average people had to suffer due to a massive road blockade organized by CITU supported auto-drivers union for the alleged partial attitude of Radhakishorepur Police Station in its bid to protect an Assistant Sub Inspector(ASI) namely Pulin Das ,who beat a veteran auto driver with his shoes on Sunday morning.

It is alleged that inspite of written made against the ASI R.K.Pur P S did not take any step against Pulin Das(ASI). And on Monday morning protesting against this partial attitude of police , auto drivers led by the CITU leaders Dilip Datta and Swapan Debnath blocked the NH-44 at Subhas Bridge in Chhanban from 9.45am.

It is alleged that Pulin Das was going to Killa riding his bike andon the way he wanted to overtake an auto but considering the safety of the passengers the auto driver Ashraf Ali did not give Pulin the side. But driving the bike at great speed Pulin overtook the auto but soon stopped his bike on the road just in front of the auto. Descending from the auto Pulin took Ali Ashraf ( an aged driver) from the auto and inhumanly beat him with his shoes behaving like a 'Mafia under his area'. Being humiliated Ali Ashraf complained to CITU leadership against Pulin's 'Inhuman behaviour'( dadagiri). In the evening a group of auto drivers registered a written complaint against Pulin Das in the R.K.Pur Police Station but none of the police officials took the least care to look into the matter.

Dissatisfied with the silent attitude of R.K.Pur police station auto drivers union blocked the NH-44 at 9.40am( peak time on the first working day of the week) led by CITU leaders Swapan Debnath and Dilip Datta. Within a span of thirty minutes more than one hundred cars on either side Udaipur-Agartala road with thousands of innocent common people(including fifty students of Netaji Subhas Mahavidyalay having the university exam) were stranded on theroad. On request of the students and local people, agitated auto drivers allowed them to go through. But there was no respite for the common people including passengers, passers by, businessmen and working people.

Receiving the news O C R.K.Pur Police Station Kanti Lal Baidya rushed to Subhas Bridge along with a large team of TSR jawans and police personnels at 10.15am. At once the O C started to talk with the agitated drivers along with the CITU leaders present there. Under pressure the O C promised to resolve the situation by arranging a meeting between police personnels and auto-drivers' union in presence of CITU leaders. Getting this assurance CITU leaders appealed to the auto-drivers to withdraw the road blockade with the demand that the meeting hasto be arranged without any delay. As the O C agreed the road-blockade was withdrawn at 11.30am and the traffic became normal.

Thus arises the question, "Who is responsible behind the sufferings and harrasment of thousands of people? Why had the O C R.K.Pur Police Station not taken any step against Pulin Das? Is it due to the fact Pulin being an ASI has got the licence to behave like a Mafia and even beat an aged auto-driver with his shoes?." Well in Tripura none is allowed to utter a word of protest against the authority. That's why the sufferings of the masses often go unheard.
