Agartala, May 17 (TIWN) : Veteran Marxist leader and seven-time MP Bajuban Riang today admitted the Left Front poor show in the recently declared Lok Sabha result especially in West Bengal would send wrong message to the people on the party’s ideology.
Riang, who opted out of the electoral race due to ailing ground, today visited Amarpur CPM party office and spoke to the party leaders.
A visibly upset Riang said, “The Left Front has been able to capture only 12 Lok Sabha seats which was beyond my expectation. It is quite unexpected that seasoned politician like Basudeb Achariya had to concede defeat to a film star- Monmon Sen”.
Noting that he is in doubt if the Left MPs could be able to make a mark in the Parliament, the veteran leader claimed the Left Front had a proven track record of making presence felt in the House.
However, Riang hoped that two Left Front MPs- Sankar Prasad Dutta and Jitendra Chowhdury will make a mark in the Parliament and take up issues related to the state.
Not only Riang, almost all party leaders are upset over the party’s poor show in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
The Left parties had contested in 89 Lok Sabha seats but managed to win only 12 putting a question mark on the organizational strength even in West Bengal and Kerala.
Party sources said the CPM politburo, the highest policy making body is expected to meet next week to review the party’s performance and future way-out plans.
