AGARTALA, Sep 5 (TIWN): Much controversy erupted when AMC announced to hike the property tax in this financial year. Opposition parties hit AMC office protesting against unnecessary property tax hike for the Capital City residents, alleging in case of development AMC has shown almost zero performance.

Counterattacking BJP and other parties, CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar said that property tax will be hiked, but not at all alike the oppositions are shouting.

However, it’s worthy to mention here that in the performance budget (2015-16)  & outcome budget (2016-17), declared by Mayor Prafullajit Sinha it was written that, “The main fund of AMC gathers from Tax. In 2015-2016 FY, Rs. 438.26 Lakhs were gathered by AMC, whereas in 2016-17 the target is about Rs. 80 lakhs”. Thus the gap between 2 FYs seems as around Rs. 42 lakhs, which will be however a huge for Agartala residents.

Thus question arises, will not this demanded tax for common people not be high for Agartala people, as the source of Income in Tripura is already very less ! Moreover, AMC has failed to provide any facility to the public. Still with few splashes of rain the town sinks into waist level water.

PM Modi’s 98,000 crores Urban development project reels under corruption in Tripura Left-front Era, SMART City mission is also becoming a dream for Agartala.

During the budget counter speech he talked about various projects ongoing and also completed project among which Mayor clamed about the almost completion of JNNURM’s Rs. 102.22 crores, which was sanctioned for Storm Water Drainage system.

But in reality there is no sign of proper drainage yet arranged in Agartala city. With a few splash of rain the city dupes into water and water logging till waist, is very common for Agartala City.

Whereas Agartala city is aimed convert into a SMART City in future, but it has remained as one of the most ‘Garbage-dumping-ground.

Under Manik Sarkar’s regime another example of Tripura’s Golden Era is the Municipal Council’s cleanliness management skill across the Agartala city. The whole city is hit with dirty smells, garbage beside the road and resulting into unhygienic condition.

Reportedly, the Municipal Corporation has not provided any kind of containers and dustbins for dumping garbage in most of the parts in the city, so that no municipal workers are need to be deployed in that area.

Such negligence of the Municipal corporation is prominent especially urban areas.

Maximum town areas are left without dustbin and people are using the drains as the alternative of dustbin, resulting  into overflowing drains.
