'No major breakthrough received into August 23 mayhem', SP West talks to TIWN, School Children called for communal harmony at Capital City

AGARTALA, Sep 4 (TIWN): Although a magisterial probe ordered into the ethnic violence at Agartala in which 24 persons were injured and 17 vehicles badly damaged on August 23 has begun, but so far there is no major breakthrough into the case. Talking to TIWN correspondent, SP West Abhijit Saptarshi said that the initial procedure into the magisterial probe has began but so far there is no major breakthrough in the case. He further said that the entire investigation is to be completed within one month of total duration. However, the DM West Millind Ramteke has sought a detailed report from the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura and will call few persons individually in connection with this inquiry, said SP West. It is to be mentioned here that the inquiry had been ordered by the Tripura government to ascertain the facts on the violent attacks and clashes of August 23. Meanwhile, Governor Tathagata Roy, addressing a function earlier urged tribal youths and students to return to Agartala without any fear. However, students from various schools have called for peace and harmony & organized a peace rally condemning the August 23rd mayhem. After the August 23 incident, a large number of tribal students and youths who had been staying in Agartala have gone back to their homes in different districts.

At least little number of people was injured when clash erupted between IPFT and other locals during the mammoth public gathering and mass rally organised by IPFT on August 23 on observance of “Twipraland” statehood demand day at Agartala city. IPFT’s rally has created unrest across the state especially at Agartala city when clash erupted at the three most crowded place of Agartala at Aitorma, Cornnel Chowmuhani, Press club and many other located place of the city.

However, a violent group of youts belonging to IPFT roaming, disrupting public life with barbaric shouting, scaring people at capital of Tripura demanding a new state on August 23. Manik’s police force was just standing as puppet watching the unruly mob disrupting public life in Agartala.

IPFT with their violent barbaric outlook openly shouted at the city participating in a rally in demand of a separate state. Manik Sarkar however now-a-days blaming the opposition parties to neighboring Bangladeshi fundamentalist elements for nurturing NLFT, but in matter of his own state Chief Minister is silent with similar disturbing groups which has again proved like IPFT demanded for a separate state and unrest across the State. Reportedly, in some places some of the youths in uncontrolled situation were harassing people, drinking liquor.
