AGARTALA, Aug 24 (TIWN): Amra Bangali state unit on Wednesday in a press meet at party office criticised the mayhem caused by IPFT on August 23 during their massive rally at Agartala.
However, claiming about the failure of state administration they further raised question that why the state administration has given permission to IPFT for organising such rally in the state capital despite of knowing the unruly attitude of IPFT.
Demanding CM Manik Sarkar resignation from his position, Amra Bangali members stated that Tripura’s CPI-M is not capable of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the state.
Reiterating the incident, Amra Bangali party members stated that Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) supporters walking in a procession through Agartala town on Tuesday created mayhem and lawlessness in larger part of the town.
As a result more than forty people sustained injuries and a large number of cars and motor bikes were burnt down and there was arsoning in several places.
Taking advantage of the inaction of police the IPFT, known for unruly behaviour of it cadres had entered Agartala town with lethal primitive weapons like 'Takkals' , clubs and spears and started stalking the town in a procession.
They also burnt down two jeeps and a scooter in the Colonel Chowmuhuni area. Even as police and TSR jawans failed to make much headway the tribals and non-tribals engaged in clashes and many innocent people including tribals had to flee for lives and take shelter in most the unlikely places.
The West Tripura district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section-144 all over Agartala town to prevent illegal gathering of people.
The IPFT has been agitating for the creation of a separate state Twipraland to be carved by upgrading the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council area.
